What a delight this summer to have this beautiful creature arrive in our garden! This is the first year we’ve had black and blue swallowtail butterflies. We also have their relative, the black and yellow swallowtail (see bonus photo below). These beautiful beings seem to especially love our Sweet William. To my surprise, one day I also learned that catbirds especially like yellow swallowtail butterflies – I saw a catbird swoop in to grab a yellow swallowtail who had landed on a flower, and proceed to eat it in a couple of bites! Well, that’s nature for you, isn’t it?
