I took this photo of a European finch that was perched on a limb just outside the castle in Castelbuono, Sicily, Italy. I had never seen a finch like this – such spectacular deep red around its face and the gorgeous hints of yellow on its wings. I love that I can see the details of its claws around the tree – and how the claws and beak are a matching pale pink color. I took this on vacation in the summer 2018.
